WhatsApp Is Breaking Language Barriers with a New In-App Translation Feature
KATHMANDU, September 25, 2025 β Meta officially announced yesterday, September 24, that it has begun rolling out its new live message translation feature for WhatsApp. This highly anticipated tool aims to overcome language and cultural barriers for its billions of users by allowing instant, in-app translations.
The feature is incredibly simple to use. When a user receives a message in a different language, they only need to long-press the message bubble to bring up a “Translate” option, enabling seamless communication across languages without ever leaving the chat.
Supported Languages and Future Plans
According to the official announcement, the feature is initially launching with support for several major languages on Android:
- English
- Spanish
- Hindi
- Portuguese
- Russian
- Arabic
While Nepali is not included in the initial list, the inclusion of Hindi and English will already be immensely helpful for a majority of users in Nepal. WhatsApp has confirmed that they plan to add more languages over time, which will hopefully include Nepali in a future update.
This rollout represents a significant step in making global communication more accessible. For a diverse and multilingual country like Nepal, the promise of easily translating conversations with friends, family, and business partners abroad is a welcome development.
