Hamro Patro registers in Nepal 2025
Hamro Patro Avoids Ban in Nepal Through Proactive Registration
Butwal, Nepal – Popular Nepali app Hamro Patro has successfully averted a potential ban in the country by promptly initiating the registration process with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. The move came on the heels of a government directive issued on Thursday, September 4, 2025, to block 26 social media platforms that had failed to register with the authorities.
While Hamro Patro was included in the initial list of platforms to be banned, the company’s swift action to apply for registration has ensured its continued operation in Nepal. The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has confirmed that due to its compliance with the registration process, Hamro Patro will not be deactivated.
The government’s decision to enforce registration for social media and online platforms is part of a broader effort to regulate digital content and ensure compliance with Nepali laws. The directive required all listed platforms to formally register with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
The list of 26 platforms slated for the ban included major international social media giants as well. The government has stated that the ban on the other non-compliant platforms will be enforced by internet service providers.
For the millions of users in Nepal and the Nepali diaspora who rely on Hamro Patro for its calendar, news aggregation, and other services, the timely registration comes as a significant relief. The app has become an integral part of daily life for many Nepalis, and a ban would have caused widespread disruption.
