Kathmandu Girl Scammed Rs. 1,040 by TikTok Seller | Tech Aware Nepal
Butwal, July 28 – A young girl fromDhangadi has fallen victim to an online scam after placing an order through a TikTok seller, losing Rs. 1,040 in the process. The incident raises serious concerns about the growing number of online fraud cases linked to unverified social media accounts.
According to a report submitted to Tech Aware Nepal, the victim discovered a TikTok page named Maya Collection(maya.collection) which was promoting a gift combo package. Intending to surprise her mother, who was in Pokhara at the time, the girl contacted the seller and placed an order.

The seller demanded an advance payment for delivery and product charges. Trusting the seller, the girlwho is a student transferred Rs. 1,040 from her personal savings via QR code to the phone number 9816898558.
After making the payment, the seller promised that the order would be delivered by 4 PM the following day. However, as the delivery deadline passed, the girl received no further communication. Her attempts to follow up through messages and TikTok went unanswered. Later that evening, she discovered that the TikTok account had blocked her, and no product was delivered.
This incident is one of several recent cases involving TikTok-based sellers engaging in fraudulent activities. The lack of verification and accountability on social media platforms has made it easier for scammers to operate freely and target unsuspecting users.
Tech Aware Nepal strongly advises the public to remain alert when purchasing products through platforms like TikTok, Instagram, or Facebook. Users should avoid making advance payments to unverified individuals or businesses and should report suspicious accounts immediately.
Victims of similar scams are encouraged to come forward and report the incidents to local cybercrime units and awareness platforms such as Tech Aware Nepal to help prevent future cases.
